Hello year 1, 2, 3 & 4

Hello,

I need your help! We are entering a competition to win £5000 to spend on music for our school. I need to tell the judges how we would like to spend the money. I need to know which idea YOU like the best! I am hoping all the class teachers will show this blog on the whiteboard and give children a chance to discuss the ideas and then leave me some comments so I know what you have decided. It doesn’t matter if your class can’t agree – just leave me some comments telling me what your different ideas were.

Here are the 3 different ideas I have suggested

Idea 1: Buy 30 djembe (drums) and employ a special teacher to teach us how to play so we can then teach others. We could then set up a djembe club for after school. We could invite Mums and Dads to come and learn to play. The after school club could play them. We could make “how to play djembe videos to put on youTube. I think it would make the school an even happier place and would help classes really work as a team

Idea 2 : Buy 10 ipads

and set up a garageband orchestra! As well as using them for a garageband group we could also use them in music lessons to record our work, make films, take pictures and blog. We could set up our own youTube channel to showcase our work. We could set ourselves the aim of teaching other people in our community more about music using the ipads to communicate how.

Idea 3 : Buy 30 ukeles and set up our own ukele orchestra.Like the djembe idea we could then use them in an afterschool club, teach grownups etc.

Do you have any other ideas? Please tell me – leave a comment below.

We need to choose just one idea and then we need to get as many people as possible to say WHY it would be a great project for the school.

Will you help me by leaving me a comment below telling me which idea we should choose and then once we have picked an idea we can then start to put an entry together. I NEED AS MANY COMMENTS AS POSSIBLE so I can show judges that this is is something the school wants! I would love to know what all the teachers and assistants think as well as the children!

Thank you so much!
Mrs Schneider

  1. i think the 10 ipads or 30 ukeles because they aare educatuional aand the will be fun.

  2. I think that we should buy keyboards for £189.00 each and we can get at least six for each classes and on Fridays you can do a keyboard club so everybody can be happy.

  3. I love iPads and think they’re a wonderful tool, but as a string player, I think the ukeleles are a brilliant idea.. If we can them can I come and learn how to play them?

  4. I have a real passion for drums. They are the music of the soul…
However, I can appreciate that ipads are the music of the future.
Hey…All great and I would be happy to see any of the proposals.
As long as we have music, we have life.
    ‘music for life’…’go merton’…
Good luck and please can I play with whatever you get?

  5. All ideas are fantastic! Whatever is chosen I am absolutely certain that it will enhance pupil learning and make a real difference! I have to agree with Ms McGrath though. After viewing the latest ‘Shift Happens’ on ‘youtube’ I do feel that iPads are the way forward for many different aspects of teaching and it would be AMAZING if we could purchase some of these for such an exciting music adventure!

  6. How can I choose just one from all the great ideas?! I do think that the iPads could be very exciting tools and that both you and the children could come up with some really innovative ways to use them. I would like to learn the djembe though…!

    • Thank you Ms McGrath.Decisions, decisions…..
