Hello to year 4 at St Luke’s School

I saw a tweet from your teacher asking for information about Ghana. I thought you might like to see and hear some Ghanian songs we have been singing.

1 Senwa Dedende.
Apparently this is about a vulture that has lost it’s way. It can’t find its way back to its nest which contains its chick. Here are some grown ups singing it. You can find this song on the Sing Up website.

2 A Keelie Makolay
This is a great song about making friends. You can make up lots of clapping games to go with it. It is a good example of a call and response song. You can also find this song on the Sing Up website.

3. Soualle
Now I am not 100% certain if this is actually from Ghana but it is a beautiful african lullaby. Again – you can find this on Sing Up. Here is the Military Wives choir singing it.

Djembe solos
Have a look at these master drummers from Ghana. They are amazing! My year 6 classes had djembe lessons for a term but we didn’t get as good as this!

This video show people making djembes by hand in Ghana.

This is a clip of some young dancers practising their moves

I hope that this has been useful and interesting for you. I would be grateful if you could leave us a comment in the box below.

Good luck with your project!
