Hello Year 3,
I hope that you had a fantastic Christmas. This term we are going to learn how to play the recorder and how to read music. By the time half term comes we should all be able to play and read the notes B A & G.

You will each get a recorder to use at school that is labelled with your name that is just for you to use.

In our very first lesson you will
1. Take it apart
2. Learn which hand must always hold the recorder on top
3. Learn how to play the note B

Have a listen to this little girl – she is only 6 but has practised lots!

Finally – have a look at how the original wooden recorder was hand made. (The recorders we play in school are plastic and are mass produced in a factory)

  1. The recorder was the very first musical instrument I learned how to play. I was 6-years old and we had moved to Trinidad (we only lived there for two years). It is an excellent instrument to learn music with. It is so easy to play and a group playing the same thing sounds wonderful. Every kid should have a recorder to learn on at primary school. You never know where the love of music will lead…
